product review: GSI Creos Mr.Crystal Color [Ruby Red]
April 10, 2014
i recently just purchased a product of Gsi Creos which i was very eager to try out. Mr. Crystal Color. there are other color choices but here i'd only be using one, Ruby Red.
i wasn't sure yet on how this works, so i tried experimenting a bit. it comes in a bigger bottle than that of the regular small mr.hobby color bottles, and has a somewhat white/ clear look to it.
so i will be testing this product out on a plastic spoon. first, i'll try it out bare on the white plastic, then try it as a layer using red as a base. since its Ruby Red, maybe it works well with its related color.
so lets start with the red base coat.
spoon after red base coat.
i then poured in the Ruby red crystal color. i thinned it down to a better consistency than when its still in its bottle.
as you can see it kind looks like mr. hobby's clear flat or clear color, except with a reddish gloss.
then sprayed three thin layers above the red base coat.
before:
after:
as you can see, not much has changed. but you can notice the difference on its glossiness and shine.
it actually just looks like i sprayed on a gloss coat ver the red, nothing special.
now to test on the bare plastic.
before:
after:
it gave the white a nice pearl-like finish, the shine is very subtle showing only a shimmer of red which i think gets the realistic look of a pearl.
so to sum this up:
-for me, mr. crystal color is meant to be used as a layer over a white base coat.
-it allows you to give your white various color tones, depending on the color you have chosen.
-it doesn't seem to work as well with other colors.
-great for giving your model a pearl-like finish.
