how to make titanium effect
October 27, 2013
in this tutorial i would be tackling the steps to give your gundam a titanium effect.
this process takes awhile, thus requiring some patience and hard work. in this tutorial i would be using spray cans to apply my paint, but both can and airbrush works the same.
make sure you apply only a thin layer of each paint, because we're gonna be putting on a few.
next spray on your gloss black, the black is really important since this makes your silver stand out.
Once the black is fully cured you can now move on to spraying a layer of silver.
Now finish by topping it with your choice of clear, Im using clear red for this tutorial.
The silver adds the titanium effect once layered with your clear color, so the better your silver looks, the better the effect turns out.
materials: (paints)
-primer
-gloss black
-any silver with a good metallic finish.
-your choice of clear color
lets start off by priming your piece.

And that's how to to add a titanium look on your gunpla.

hi there. Can I use enamel paint to do this as well?
ReplyDeletefrom what i know acrylic, lacquer and enamel can all be used for this. Just make sure to let your paint cure between paints.
ReplyDeletecan u share the spray can u used and the code. thanks
ReplyDeleteShould i use titanium silver tamiya or chrome silver tamiya? What differences will it make?
ReplyDeleteI used bosny chrome in the example above. Alcad paints work best for me, but any silver would do, as long as you have a good glossy finish not a dull one. So the gloss black plays an important role in the procedure.
Deleteso is the chrome okay?
DeleteIt should work fine
Deletehow about white titanium finish? i was imagining mixing chrome silver with white to lighten its greyness. and also, will it be nice if we do the panel lining before the clear red so the lines will be like dark red shadow and not just plain black? never tried it coz it will be my first time to paint my kits, im still looking for tips...:)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for this very late reply, but if it still matters; i have never tried a white titanium finish. There is a pearl finish and GSI Creos offers a nice variation of shades for it. As for the panel lining a darker shade of red is also works quite well besides black if you are looking for a more subtle kind of shading.
